Welcome to Year 1. Throughout the year our children will be engaged in creative, exciting, learning opportunities. Year 1 is all about preparing our children to become independent learners. In addition to the academic subjects, our children will enjoy exploring art, music, PE and a variety of topics. Our phonic work will open the door for our children to read a greater variety of books. We know you will have fun supporting your children’s learning. Our class web page will be updated reqularly and you can ask any questions; we are always here to help. Step into the world of year one an amazing journey.

Inspire Curriculum:

During the Spring Term, Year 1 will be learning about animals, where they live, what they eat and how they behave. The children will be covering all areas of the curriculum, science, geography and history. At Boney Hay we use the Inspire Curriculum when planning.

Homework and Expectations:

Children will receive weekly spellings on Monday and be tested on Friday, the words are taken from the year 1 spelling list. Please encourage your children to practice their spellings daily using our look, cover, write check method. Please hear your child read at least three times weekly and record an entry in the reading diary. When reading, let the children read the words aloud and correct any misconceptions, please ask your children about the pictures in the book, this is an improtnant part of early reading development. Find a quiet time when you and your child are both relaxed and enjoy. Year 1 will also have a half termly home learning project based on our animals theme. Please upload work to the class Dojo if you are able to do so and Dojo points will be awarded.

In year 1, we enjoy PE on Monday and Friday, this term our focus is dance and hockey. Please ensure children come in their PE kit, blue or black shorts, white polo shirt, pumps and on colder/outdoor days, jogging bottoms, sweatshirt and trainers. It is important our children get plenty of fresh air and exercise to enance their wellbeing.

We hope you enjoy using our class page.
